A newborn infant, or neonate, refers to a baby in the first 28 days of life, a period marked by the highest risk of morbidity and mortality. The world health organization in collaboration with partners around the world has developed a second edition of the essential newborn care course. This year, the theme is “safe care for every newborn and every child”, with the slogan “patient safety from the start!”, recognizing the vulnerability of this age group to risks.
